Features

Everything it does, honestly.

DebitMate is a budgeting app for people who want to know where the money went without handing their banking login to a startup. Here is the whole of it — including the parts it deliberately does not do.

Recurring payments

The bills that arrive whether you look at them or not.

Every cadence you actually have

  • Weekly, fortnightly, monthly, quarterly, six-monthly and yearly
  • Pause a bill without deleting its history
  • Tick a payment off as paid; the row recolours as you do
  • Overdue, due soon and paid are colours you can read across the room

A month that starts cleanly

  • Start New Month clears every paid tick for the new cycle
  • Last month is kept — resetting no longer erases what you paid
  • The app notices when the calendar month rolls over and asks, once
  • Windows notifications for what is overdue and what is coming

Fast to use, not just fast to open

  • Live search across name, category, notes, amount and due day
  • Enter saves from any field in any form
  • Multi-select for bulk re-categorising and deleting

Transactions, without a bank connection

You download a CSV from your bank the way you would anyway. DebitMate never holds a credential that could reach your account — because it never has one.

Import from any bank

Columns are detected automatically, whatever your bank calls them. Re-importing the same file is safe: duplicate rows are skipped rather than doubled, which is the mistake every other importer lets you make once.

Smart rules

Anything containing TESCO becomes Groceries. CRD PMT 4471 SAINSBURYS LOC becomes Sainsbury's. Transfers between your own accounts stop counting as spending. Re-run the rules across your whole history whenever you add one.

Subscriptions you had forgotten

Recurring charges are found in your own transactions — the cadence, the typical amount, the usual day. Price rises, duplicate subscriptions and charges that have quietly stopped are all flagged, with what they cost per month and per year.

Budgets, goals and net worth

Budgets

  • A monthly limit per category, with live progress
  • Unspent headroom can roll into next month, or not
  • Override a single month without disturbing your usual limit

Net worth

  • Current accounts, savings, credit cards, loans, investments, pensions
  • Offline assets — a house, a car, anything worth counting
  • Assets, debts and what is available now, at a glance

Savings goals

  • A pot with a target and an optional date
  • Tells you what to put away each month to arrive on time
  • Warns you when a goal has drifted off track

Split expenses

  • Groups for housemates, a partner or a trip
  • Split evenly to the exact penny — no missing 1p
  • The shortest set of payments that squares everyone up

Analytics

  • Income against spending over twelve months
  • Category donut and top merchants
  • Charts drawn as SVG on your machine — no charting service

Insights

  • Overdue bills and blown budgets
  • Spending spikes against your own normal
  • Duplicate subscriptions and price rises
Details that matter

Money in pennies,
not in decimals.

Every amount is stored as a whole number of pence rather than a floating-point value. It sounds like a detail until you notice a total that is a penny out and cannot find where. Totals in DebitMate are exact, always.

Charts get the same treatment. Series colours are a fixed eight-slot palette validated against each theme's own surface for colour-vision-deficiency separation and contrast — the dark set is a chosen palette, not an inverted one. Legends are always present and large arcs are labelled directly, so no chart depends on colour alone.

Spaces

Personal, business and household budgets side by side, each with its own bills, categories and history. Switch between them without exporting anything.

Themes that follow Windows

Light, dark, or System — which changes with your Windows setting, live. The native window controls repaint with it, so the title bar never sits dark on a light app.

Your data, exportable

CSV export for payments, transactions and budgets, and a full JSON backup. Whatever happens to us, your records open in something else.

Being straight with you

What DebitMate does not do.

Every one of these is a deliberate decision, not a missing feature waiting for the next release.

It does notBecause
Connect to your bank Open banking means handing an intermediary standing access to your account. A CSV you download yourself carries the same information and none of the risk.
Sync between your PC and your phone Syncing needs a server holding your finances. There isn't one. Each device keeps its own file; use the JSON backup to move between them deliberately.
Back your data up for you A backup we held would be a copy of your finances on our machines. Export a JSON backup to wherever you already trust — that decision stays yours.
Collect analytics or telemetry Nothing about how you use it is measured or sent. The only request the app ever makes is the licence check, and the privacy page lists every field in it.
Give financial advice It shows you your own numbers accurately and points out things worth noticing. What to do about them is not something software should be telling you.

See it against your
own statements.

Thirty days, everything switched on, nothing to cancel.
